Seed Cleaning
Our specialty is segregation of companion crops. We strive to remove all non-crop matter to provide you with a quality weed free seed. As organic growers, seed purity is important to us, and we know the importance of starting with clean seed.
Food Grade Processing
Food Grade Processing: All non-seed separation is performed to food-grade quality standards, in compliance with SQF requirements. This means that all clean-out logs, lot code assignments, and process control points are closely monitored to ensure your product retains its integrity and remains free from external contaminants. SOPs are in place to ensure that your specifications are consistently met.
We have experience in, though not limited to, the following food grade crops:
- Spelt: De-huller, Fan-mill, Gravity Table, and Optical Sorting.
- Soybeans: Fan-mill, Gravity Table, Destoner, and Optical Sorting.
- Wheat: Fan-mill, Gravity Table and Optical Sorting.
- Sunflower: Fan-mill, Gravity Table and Optical Sorting.
- Yellow, white, and blue corn: Fan-mill, Gravity Table, and Optical Sorting.
With the additional Near Infra Red optical sort, we are also able to remove stones, glass, metal, wood, and plastic. Which can come from fields, equipment, trucks, or storage facilities. This equipment significantly improves our ability to accurately sort defects, reducing the amount of good product that is mistakenly discarded.
Compost
What began in 1992 to manage tomato peels and cabbage trimmings from Hirzel Canning has grown into a key part of our operation. Our Ohio EPA Class II facility in Pemberville, OH, uses advanced technology to compost efficiently, with an onsite lab and weather station (
https://weather.cfaes.osu.edu/stationinfo.asp?id=102) to monitor progress. We offer a sustainable solution for managing food waste, manures, and yard waste in Wood and surrounding counties.
We produce nearly 12 million pounds of high-quality compost annually, primarily used on our organic farm and sold locally. Incorporating this compost into soil helps reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers, which are harmful to the environment due to their fossil fuel origins.
